Our farm

Where the Gir cow roams free

Nestled in the heart of Saurashtra, GirYashoda Ecofarms is a sanctuary for the indigenous Gir breed — one of India's most treasured cattle.

Our story

Born from a love for the Gir cow

GirYashoda Ecofarms began with a simple belief: that the Gir cow, India's most sacred and ancient breed, deserves to live with dignity. Our founders left city life to establish a farm where these magnificent animals could graze freely, eat naturally, and give milk on their own terms.

Today our herd of Gir cows lives on open pasture, fed on organic fodder, and cared for by a team that treats each animal as family. We follow zero-cruelty practices — no force-feeding, no hormones, no artificial stimulation.

How we farm

Ethical practices, ancient wisdom

01

Free-range grazing

Our cows roam 12 acres of open pasture daily. Natural movement and sunlight are essential to their health and the quality of their milk.

02

Organic fodder

We grow our own fodder — green grass, jowar, and seasonal crops — without pesticides or chemical fertilisers.

03

Bilona method

Our ghee is made using the traditional Bilona process: curd is hand-churned, butter separated, and slow-cooked to golden perfection.

04

Vedic care

We follow Vedic principles of cow care — daily grooming, music therapy, and ensuring each cow is milked only after her calf has fed.

The Gir breed

India's most treasured cow

The Gir cow originates from the Gir forest region of Gujarat. Recognised by her distinctive humped back, long pendulous ears, and gentle temperament, she is one of the world's most prized dairy breeds.

Gir milk contains the A2 beta-casein protein — the same protein found in human breast milk — making it far easier to digest than milk from hybrid breeds. Her milk is also richer in omega-3 fatty acids, calcium, and vitamins A and D.
